Uplift contains Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract and 5-HTP (derived from the seed of the African plant, Griffonia simplicifolia) as its major active ingredients. These ingredients are both known for their anti-depressant and anti-stress actions. In this formula, they work on the weak and reversible MAO-inhibitor activity of its Ginkgo ingredient which acts by inhibiting the enzymatic degradation of the serotonin that is formed from its 5-HTP ingredient. By inhibiting the MAO-mediated breakdown of the serotonin that is formed from its precursor (5-HTP), Ginkgo extract enhances the action associated with increased serotonin content of the brain.Uses of Uplift include conditions associated with compromised serotonin neurotransmission in the CNS which have been associated with depression, any disorder related to the abnormal consumption of food, such as obesity, bulimia, anorexia nervosa, any form of sleep disturbance, such as insomnia, that may or may not be associated with a clinical diagnosis of major depression, symptoms associated with other neurologic/psychiatric disorders that may or may not be related to major depression, and symptoms associated with major neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s chorea, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. |
